Abstract
First surveys Arnold J. Toynbee's career, stating that prior to World War II he was not well known as a historian. His political concept, which favors the liquidation of small states to satisfy American interests in Europe, is condemned. Toynbee's theory of historical knowledge is also strongly criticized. Accordingly, Toynbee has sacrificed the science of history in the service of mythology and religion (theology). His philosophy of history is the last word of bourgeois historiography in the age of psychological warfare and Western imperialism.
