White Mythologies? Informatik Statt Geschichte(n): Die Grenzen der 'Metahistory'

Abstract
A critical look at Hayden White's 'Metahistory: The Historical Imagination in Nineteenth-Century Europe' (1973). The author questions the meaning of historical reality, as either the torrent of facts organized by computer or as historical narratives. Any narrative necessarily reflects the orientation of the narrator; raw data are not as exposed to bias, but they are inchoate and, by themselves, meaningless.
