Conference: 'Against Orthodoxies. Working with Hayden White'

On November 1 and 2, 2019, a conference will be held at UC Santa Cruz to honor the late Hayden White. The event is conceived as an invitation to extend Hayden White’s thinking in new directions. Inspired by his rigorous, daring, iconoclastic spirit, this will be a time for experiment and dialogue. Confirmed participants are innovative scholars from a wide variety of disciplines. Keynote speakers: Judith Butler (UC Berkeley), Carol Mavor (University of Manchester), Susan Stewart (Princeton University). More specific information will be forthcoming in early Autumn. But for now, please save the date! The organizing committee consists of Paul Roth (Professor of Philosophy, UCSC) and James Clifford (Professor Emeritus, History of Consciousness, UCSC). The event will be sponsored by The Humanities Institute at UC Santa Cruz, and is supported by UCSC’s Cowell College and Stanford University’s Division of Literatures, Cultures and Languages.
