Biography and/or project
I am a specialist in the history of historical thought and writing and have authored or edited several books as well as essays in this field, and also in my original area of early modern British history. My current projects include editing a book series for Cambridge University Press, Elements in Historical Theory and Practice, an edited volume of essays on the theme of histories written from the perspective of defeat and exile (with Prof Marnie Hughes-Warrington), and research on the theme of normativity in the study of the past, an essay from which appears in the journal History and Theory (2021 no 3).
