Biography and/or project

My research focuses primarily on the eighteenth-century, and in particular on Scottish writer James Macpherson. I'm currently writing a monograph, to be published by Edinburgh University Press, on Macpherson as historian, entitled 'Macpherson the Historian: Enlighten, Historiography and Nation-building'. My next project after that is a history of the Royal Celtic Society, founded in 1820, with particular emphasis on its role in narrating Scotland's past.

I am also involved in a number of public engagement projects that bring together historiography and imaginative writing: the Macpherson’s Ossianic Legacy community project, the interdisciplinary research network 'Hub for the Study of British Identities', and the rare books project 'Meet the Books', in collaboration with High Life Highland.
