Anthe Baele

Biography and/or project

I am a historian and work as a FWO doctoral student at the Department of History at Ghent University. After obtaining a MA in History at Ghent University, I obtained an international Advanced MA in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies at the KU Leuven. I work on the use of history in interaction with the metaphorical ‘other’ and more specifically the reception of historical cultures. Civic integration courses are my main area of research. My current work makes a comparison between the role of history in civic integration courses in Flanders and The Netherlands, with a specific focus on the reception of history by newcomers, the role of historical culture in senses of belonging, and the interaction of historical cultures.
