Abstract
Cet article se propose d’interroger le rapport entre la philosophie de l’histoire de Barnave et sa pratique politique. Cet acteur de premier plan est en effet l’un des rares à arriver au seuil de la Révolution avec une théorie assez aboutie de l’évolution des sociétés humaines, comme la découverte récente d’un manuscrit semble le prouver. Comment cette théorie survit-elle à la confrontation avec le réel révolutionnaire ? À quel prix théorique ?, This essay looks at the way Barnave’s philosophy of history and his practical politics mesh. This major player was one of the few to enter the Revolution with a more or less worked-out theory of the evolution of human societies – as the recent discovery of a manuscript document suggests. What happened to this theory in the face of actual Revolution? To what extent was the theory dented?
