Abstract
In this book, the author analyzes the books from which American children get their first and most lasting idea of what the United States is all about. Her thesis is that with all the rewriting of American history to suit pedagogical fads and political interest groups, there remains no clear idea of what the American Dream ever was or is supposed to be.
