Abstract
It is our goal to clarify what metamorphosis the ciceronian axiom “Historia
magistra vitae” has undergone in face of the various temporal perspectives. And, if
such a task implies weighing the contribution of cyclic, judaic-christian and
modern forms of temporalities, it should also be asked what reception is possible
nowadays – when the production of memories is passing a moment of crisis and
the trivialization of the new has been the support of an arithmetic and cumulative
experience of time.
