Abstract
F. R. Ankersmit's argument that the authority of historical texts has disappeared prompts a discussion on the relationship between historical texts and their interpretations. There is no doubt that there exists a "rigidity" in the investigation of historical texts, but that "rigidity" is gradually lost with the "flexibility" of interpretation.
