Abstract
Criticizes 20th-century bourgeois historiography as denying the social implications of developments in the natural sciences, causing contradictions between the laws of history, divorcing causal from logical explanation in history, history from sociology, and historical from structural analysis. Considers the denial of social law and objective logic as an expression of the middle-class ideological crisis in captialism's imperialist stage, presenting social and historical science as weapons of progressive proletarian ideology. Pays particular attention to the works of Wilhelm Dilthey, Georges Gurvitch, Régis Jolivet, H. I. Marrou, Oswald Spengler, Karl Popper, Emile Callot, V. I. Lenin, Karl Marx, and Friedrich Engels; 52 notes.
