Abstract
An essay is presented examining the nature and purpose of history as seen within the writings of the 19th-century German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The philosopher's essay "Vom Nutzen und Nachtheil der Historie für das Leben" is heavily referenced, examining its assertions regarding the concepts of justice, historicism, and life. Further exploration into Nietzsche's views of epistemology and ontology is also provided.
