A history of the international historical congresses. Work in progress

Abstract
Describes the growth of the International Congress of Historical Sciences from the turn of the century to the present and the changes they have undergone during that time. As the congresses have evolved into truly international fora, attention has centered on different concerns. Interest has moved from political/intellectual to social/economic history and general questions of theory and method have given way to more specific issues reflecting the interests of the participants. Discusses the effect of international events, the intrusion of politics, and the attempt of congress participants to form a bridge between monocausality and multicausality.
