Abstract
With the intent of exploring the relationship between history and historian, between fact, fiction, make-believe and poetry, this essay gives examination to the body of knowledge that surrounds World War One (WWI) and the formation of the Turkish republic. The topic of erasure is central in this piece, and revolving around it are questions and reflections on the motives and methodologies of previous histories on the Great War. The fractured nature of this piece is an attempt to engage the audience in a way that the audience may not be accustomed to: the objective is to make reading this history less comfortable than reading a typical narrative, and to provoke the reader to take an active role in assembling the story.
