Special issue: The archive and the subaltern

The third number of Práticas da História is now available online at http://www.praticasdahistoria.pt/en. This special issue is entitled “The archive and the subaltern”, and was coordinated by Carolien Stolte (Leiden University) and António da Silva Rego (Birkbeck, University of London). This issue explores the often-complicated relationship between the Archive and those who struggle most to find themselves represented in History. From South Asia to Africa, from institutionalized historiographies to revisionist movements, the issue explores this relationship between the archive and the subaltern subject, through articles by Benjamin Zachariah, Dale Menezes, Ruy Blanes and Orazio Irrera. The transcript of the Glass roundtable of 2015, where Nira Wickramasinghe, Dipesh Chakrabarty, Ksenia Robbe and Wayne Modest discussed how this complicated relationship affected their practice is also included. Finally, this issue presents the reader with an interview of Sanjay Seth.
