Distinguished Africanist 2009, Bogumil Jewsiewicki tought at Congolese universities from 1968 to 1976 and from 1977 up to his retirement in 2009 at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada where he holded Canada Research Chair in Comparative History of Memory. He published on cultural history and social memory of 20th century Congo, especially on visual culture as well as on memory and history in post Soviet Central Europe. Curated exhibitions on Congolese popular urban painting and on photography in the USA and in Europe.
