Juhana Kaj Saarelainen

Biography and/or project

I am a PhD student in the Department of Cultural History at the University of Turku. In my forthcoming dissertation I explore epistemological poetics of early Finnish nationalism in the thought and practice by Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) – a Finnish linguist, journalist and Doctor of Medicine. With my dissertation I take part in a research project “Travelling Notions of Culture: Itineraries of Bildung and Civilisation in Early Nineteenth-Century Europe” led by professor Hannu Salmi and funded by Academy of Finland. My related and other research interests include 18th and 19th century; history of ideas; enlightenment and romanticism; history of aesthetics; history of philosophy and philosophy of history.
