Richard Hutchings

Biography and/or project

Richard (Rich) Hutchings is a social scientist specializing in critical development and heritage studies. Concerned with late modern heritage stewardship, the bulk of his work involves critical analysis of the institution and practice of heritage management (also known as resource management), particularly archaeology and cultural resource management. Dr. Hutchings is a founding director of the Institute for Critical Heritage and Tourism, British Columbia, Canada, and author of the book Maritime Heritage in Crisis: Indigenous Landscapes and Global Ecological Breakdown (Routledge).
